| | | 1946 Japanese Celluloid W/U New York Yankee Baseball Catcher(Reference #LBC99) Marked 'Made in Occupied Japan', this very attractive baseball catcher dates from 1946. Standing 5.5" tall, he is equipped with a fully functioning clockwork motor (but please note that a key is not provided). He has the 'NY' logo on his left arm. One of the best features of this toy is the way his eyes look upwards and his mouth is open: there's no way he's going to drop that catch. The catcher is in excellent condition and still has his original box. This is also marked 'made in Occupied Japan'. Some of the flaps are detached and the box suffers from slight tearing, but it is complete. And it's always a bonus to have the original box. (#) US$220.00

| | 1920s Japanese Tin/Celluloid W/U Hawaiian Doll Toy(Reference #3-6-57a) Made in Japan in the 1920s, this is a charming novelty toy. It is clearly marked MADE IN JAPAN on the back. The doll stands 8" tall and has a celluloid head and torso with tinplate legs and feet. The celluloid is very finely moulded with a floral garland in the hair, and a particularly joyful facial expression. The toy is complete with an integral key: wind her up and she both sways from the hips and moves around. The 'grass' skirt is an especial delight as it is made of very silky fibres and sways with the body. The toy is in full working order and very good condition, given its age and inherent fragility. The original paper export label is still stuck to the toy under the left arm. In terms of overall condition, the back of the head and torso are slightly faded in comparison with the front, there is a small dent to the forehead which is thankfully disguised by the curls of the fringe, there is slight loss of colour to the fringe and tip of the nose, slight loss of colour (and material?) to the black necklace, and a small curved indentation to the top of the right arm which looks as though it was done in the manufacturing process. All of this makes the toy sound as if it is poor condition which it certainly isn't. It is a very attractive example of Japanese celluloid toy-making at its most creative. (#) US$110.00

| 1960s English Plastic W/U Duck - Moving Eyes and Beak(Reference #03-12-31) Made in England in the 1960s, this is a most unusual plastic and wind-up toy as it has the most delightful action. Use the integral key to wind the duck (3.5" long) and he goes round in circles while his eyes rotate in their sockets and his beak opens and closes. Apart from minor paint loss to the beak and a small chip to the back of one of the wheel sockets, the duck is in very good condition. (#) US$30.00

| 1950s English Dancing Butterflies W/U Novelty(Reference #1-5-133) Made in England in the 1950s, this plastic, tinplate and cloth novelty is described on the box as 'a summer day brought indoors'. It consists of a plastic and tinplate base (4 inches in diameter) housing a wind-up motor which is surmounted by five cloth flowers and two cloth butterflies on wire stalks. A third butterfly is included, but it is detached from the toy, and its wire stalk is broken and missing. However, this does not affect the operation of the toy. Wind it up (but please note that a key is not provided), and the butterflies flutter around above the flowers. The base suffers from slight marking and print loss, and the flowers from age-related wear but, overall, this novelty item is in good condition. It is still housed in its original cardboard box; this is complete and intact, and only suffers from slight scuffing. (J) US$36.00
