1970s Alps Plastic W/U Happy Hillbilly 1970s Alps Plastic W/U Happy Hillbilly(Reference #01-7-6hh)
Made by Alps of Japan in the 1970s, this plastic and wind-up hillbilly stands 5.5" tall and is blessed with an integral key. Wind him up and he vibrates round in a circle while his head moves up and down on his unnaturally long neck. Apart from some minor scuffing to the body, the hillbilly is in 'as new' condition and there are no faults to report. (#) US$50.00

Price: £25.00

1980s Plastic Wind-Up Toys (2)(Reference #LBC43)
This selection comprises two plastic toys from Macau and Hong Kong, both of which have integral keys. First up is a Blue Box Bobbles hippo toy (4" tall) made in Macau; he swims, walks, and bobs up and down. He is in full working order and is still contained in his original packaging, the plastic lid of which is faded. The second item was made in Hong Kong and is a walking penguin (5" tall) in the original box. He waddles along in a truly penguin-like manner, whistling as he does so. Both items are in very good condition and full working order. (WR) US$20.00

Price: £10.00

1980s Plastic Wind-Up Toys (2)

1980s Plastic Wind-Up Toys (3) 1980s Plastic Wind-Up Toys (3)(Reference #LBC42)
This selection comprises three plastic toys from Spain and Hong Kong. First up is Dani (5.25" tall), a Spanish acrobatic bear that performs on the bar when you squeeze the buttons. Second, and also from Spain, is a pecking raven (2.25" tall), still in his original packet, although this has been opened down one side. The final item is a Hong Kong plastic wind-up monkey (4" tall), also still in its original packet, although there is a hole in the back of the plastic bag where the key protrudes. All three items are in very good condition and full working order. (WR) US$20.00

Price: £10.00

1980s Hong Kong Plastic W/U Frogman - Original Packet(Reference #LBC23)
Made in Hong Kong in the 1980s, this 6" long plastic and wind-up frogman is still contained in his original packaging of printed backing card and moulded mica. He is therefore still in shop stock condition. One of his flippers has become detached from his leg over the years but, as the flippers are designed to come off, it could easily be re-attached. (WR) US$20.00

1920s Japanese Tin/Celluloid W/U Hawaiian Doll Toy 1920s Japanese Tin/Celluloid W/U Hawaiian Doll Toy(Reference #3-6-57a)
Made in Japan in the 1920s, this is a charming novelty toy. It is clearly marked MADE IN JAPAN on the back. The doll stands 8" tall and has a celluloid head and torso with tinplate legs and feet. The celluloid is very finely moulded with a floral garland in the hair, and a particularly joyful facial expression. The toy is complete with an integral key: wind her up and she both sways from the hips and moves around. The 'grass' skirt is an especial delight as it is made of very silky fibres and sways with the body. The toy is in full working order and very good condition, given its age and inherent fragility. The original paper export label is still stuck to the toy under the left arm. In terms of overall condition, the back of the head and torso are slightly faded in comparison with the front, there is a small dent to the forehead which is thankfully disguised by the curls of the fringe, there is slight loss of colour to the fringe and tip of the nose, slight loss of colour (and material?) to the black necklace, and a small curved indentation to the top of the right arm which looks as though it was done in the manufacturing process. All of this makes the toy sound as if it is poor condition which it certainly isn't. It is a very attractive example of Japanese celluloid toy-making at its most creative. (#) US$110.00

Price: £55.00

1960s English Plastic W/U Duck - Moving Eyes and Beak(Reference #03-12-31)
Made in England in the 1960s, this is a most unusual plastic and wind-up toy as it has the most delightful action. Use the integral key to wind the duck (3.5" long) and he goes round in circles while his eyes rotate in their sockets and his beak opens and closes. Apart from minor paint loss to the beak and a small chip to the back of one of the wheel sockets, the duck is in very good condition. (#) US$30.00

1980s Hong Kong Plastic W/U Swimming Doll in Packet 1980s Hong Kong Plastic W/U Swimming Doll in Packet(Reference #01-12-07s)
Made in Hong Kong and marketed in France by Pyragric, this plastic and wind-up swimming doll is called Suzy. The original packaging proclaims her to be: 'Suzy, the new fashion model doll, who really swims'. Suzy measures 10.5" long and has an integral key. The original packaging is complete and intact, but the cellophane does suffer from slight crushing and tearing. (WR) US$20.00

Price: £10.00

1950s Boxed Tri-ang Minic Plastic W/U Ladybug(Reference #6-11-64a)
After the end of WWII, Minic of England introduced a range of plastic wind-up vehicles and novelties, of which this ladybird - 'an amazing insect - it scampers everywhere!' is a prime example. Measuring 3.5" long, the ladybug is in absolutely excellent condition. Unusually, it has all six of its little legs intact. These are so delicate and fragile that they very frequently break off. However, such is not the case with this delightful specimen that also has a fully functioning wind-up motor. Wind her up (but please note that a key is not supplied) and she does indeed scamper everywhere - first going straight, then going round in circles, then darting off in different directions. The box hasn't fared as well over the years: it is missing all three flaps from one end, and also suffers from minor tearing and creasing. This is a very attractive little insect that would gladden the heart of any serious collector of ladybugs in particular or insects in general. (#) US$50.00

1950s English Dancing Butterflies W/U Novelty 1950s English Dancing Butterflies W/U Novelty(Reference #1-5-133)
Made in England in the 1950s, this plastic, tinplate and cloth novelty is described on the box as 'a summer day brought indoors'. It consists of a plastic and tinplate base (4 inches in diameter) housing a wind-up motor which is surmounted by five cloth flowers and two cloth butterflies on wire stalks. A third butterfly is included, but it is detached from the toy, and its wire stalk is broken and missing. However, this does not affect the operation of the toy. Wind it up (but please note that a key is not provided), and the butterflies flutter around above the flowers. The base suffers from slight marking and print loss, and the flowers from age-related wear but, overall, this novelty item is in good condition. It is still housed in its original cardboard box; this is complete and intact, and only suffers from slight scuffing. (J) US$36.00

1930s Japan W/U Celluloid Double Acrobat Toy(Reference #3-12-90)
This impressive double acrobat toy was made in Japan in the 1930s, and stands 19.5" tall. It is in working order, but the two celluloid boys do not perform their random antics quite as vigorously as they did in the 1930s, when the toy was new. They swing backwards and forwards and one of them moves up and down on his bar, but neither of them somersaults over the bar. Both figures are well realised, with pleasing features and clothes of the time. The fragile celluloid is in mostly good condition, apart from a small hole to the forehead of one boy, and a slight dent to the left-hand cheek of the same child. This damage does not, however, seriously detract from the appearance of the toy. The double acrobat version of this toy is much scarcer than the single figure model also produced, and if you like clever and amusing novelty toys, then this one is sure to please. (WR) US$190.00

Price: £95.00

1930s Japan W/U Celluloid Double Acrobat Toy

1950s Japanese W/U Celluloid Tumbling Monkey 1950s Japanese W/U Celluloid Tumbling Monkey(Reference #03-2-10)
Simply marked MADE IN JAPAN, this rabbit fur-covered tumbling monkey (8" tall) has a celluloid face, felt trousers, and is in full working order with an integral key. When wound, he somersaults very effectively as he is a relatively light toy, the trousers being empty of any weight. This novelty toy is in good, clean condition with no serious defects. There is just some slight grubbiness and very minor fraying to the paws. He would make an attractive addition to any collection of novelty toys in general or monkey toys in particular. (*) US$70.00
