| | | | Pre-war German Steam Accessory Grinding Wheel(Reference #4-9-593) On offer here is a heavy, probably diecast, mounting on a wooden base that carries a wooden grinding wheel. Please note that the strip of emery paper that would normally have been stuck to the wheel is missing. There is a very small semi-circular notch on the extreme end of the carrier whose purpose is unclear - at least to us. The accessory stands 3 inches high and is in good condition for its age. It is not marked in any way, but was probably made in Germany in the pre-war period. (#) US$36.00

| 1930s English Diecast Steam Accessory Press(Reference #4-9-592) This diecast steam press is believed to be English in origin, and to date from the 1930s. It measures 4.5" high, and is mounted on a wooden base. It is in working order and, when connected to a stationary steam engine, should function just as it did when new. (125 #) US$60.00

| | 1960s Arnold Tin Grinder Steam Accessory(Reference #01-7-6z) Made by Arnold in West Germany in the 1960s, this steam accessory of a workman grinding scissors is in very good original condition. There is just some slight scuffing to the figure, and the scissors are tarnished with age. The grinder works as he should, and sparks fly from the grinding wheel when the pulley wheel is connected to a stationary steam engine. The base measures 4.5" long and the figure is 4" high. This is a superb late-ish example of the tin toy maker's art. Karl Arnold started producing tin toys with a built-in flint in Nuremburg in 1906. Apart from a standstill during World War I, the company continued to produce such toys until the late 1950s. By that time, the range of toys included vehicles, boats, submarines, steam accessories, and novelty toys. (50 *) US$78.00

| 1960s Tinplate Steam Accessory Workman(Reference #01-7-6) Probably made by Arnold and marked on the leg; 'Made in US Zone Germany', this toy is likely to have been manufactured somewhat later in the 1960s rather than immediately post war. The toy comprises a beautifully printed workman at his grinding bench sharpening a pair of shears. The grinding wheel is supposed to be attached to a steam engine and when turning will generate sparks from the flint concealed in the shears. Arnold made a number of different workmen accessories for steam engines, all of which have moving arms and work in a similar fashion to this example. These toys are very attractive, nicely detailed and evocative of their time. There are no particular flaws to this toy to report apart from some general wear to the base. The base measures 6" long and the figure is 4" high. (#) US$78.00

| | 1940s German Tin Windmill Steam Accessory(Reference #7-9-175) Clearly marked MADE IN US ZONE GERMANY, this toy dates from the period between 1948 and 1952. Standing 4.5" tall, it is made of brightly lithographed tinplate that depicts a Dutch boy and girl on the balcony, and a Dutch boy seated on a bench below. Mounted on a green tinplate base, the windmill has independently rotating sails that can either be driven by steam or hand-cranked. The mechanism for achieving this - a crank and two pulleys are mounted on the reverse of the windmill. The toy is in fair condition for its age: all it suffers from is print loss to the building and the roof where, over the years, the sails have scraped by. Overall, this is an extremely attractive toy that would grace any collection of toy windmills or steam accessories. (50 #) US$78.00
