1960s West German Jointed Plush Monkey(Reference #06-3-2)
Although not made by either Steiff or Schuco, this is nevertheless a quality plush toy from 1960s Germany. Measuring 11.5" tall, the monkey is made of luxurious mohair plush, has woodwool stuffing, glass eyes, felt face, ears and paws, and is fully jointed. Best of all, his paws and tail have a wire armature which means that they can be placed in various positions - very useful for climbing and presentation purposes. The monkey is in very good condition for his age; the only minor defects to report are that the wire has just pierced the felt of the left hand and right foot. (#) US$90.00

1960s English Lion Cub Plush Toy 1960s English Lion Cub Plush Toy(Reference #01-3-57)
Probably made in England in the 1960s, this 12" long lion cub (plus tail) is very clearly a copy of a Steiff toy. The pink embroidered nose is a dead giveaway. The toy is made of mohair plush, has woodwool stuffing, black plastic eyes, and original nose, mouth and claw embroidery. The cub is in very acceptable condition for his age, but does suffer from some marking to the plush. However, if you're a fan of lion toys, then don't let this one escape your clutches. 1920s English Dean's Rag Book Toy Monkey with Label(Reference #01-10-02d)
This delightful 12" tall soft toy monkey is in a permanent seated position and is fully jointed. He bears all the hallmarks of quality that you associate with toys made by Dean's Rag Book Company of London. He has luxurious silky mohair plush, woodwool and kapok stuffing, stitched felt paws, pressed felt face with moulded and painted facial features, glass eyes with eyelids - a most unusual feature, and felt ears. The monkey has a particularly appealing expression; he looks as though he has just been asked to keep mum, and is now looking for someone sympathetic to take him home. He has the long, curved arms that are so typical of soft toys and bears of the 1920s, and the way he sits with his arms touching his toes is simply adorable. He is in very acceptable condition for a soft toy that is 80 years old, but he does suffer from minor flaws. There is fading to the mohair on the front of his body, some loss of mohair (particularly to the knees), a few small holes to the felt face mask and ears, professional patching to both felt ears, and all four paw pads have been professionally replaced because the originals had deteriorated beyond repair. The original Dean's Rag Book label has been carefully re-stitched to the underside of the left foot. If you're looking for an unusual vintage soft toy monkey, then this Dean's example could be just the one for you.

1930s French FADAP Airedale Terrier - Jointed Head 1930s French FADAP Airedale Terrier - Jointed Head(Reference #05-9-10)
This stunning 12" tall Airedale Terrier was made by FADAP (Fabrication Artistique d'Animaux en Peluche) of France in the 1930s. He is a wonderfully appealing soft toy dog as he has a jointed head that can be angled so that he looks up at you with that yearning expression that is so typical of dogs when they want something. He has brown glass eyes, an embroidered nose and mouth, floppy ears, and a shaggy muzzle. The terrier has a wire armature that is still completely intact; he therefore stands very solidly, and his perky little tail is as perky as ever. The squeaker no longer works, there is slight wear and marking to the plush, the wire armature is beginning to poke through one of the front paws, and there is some staining to the cotton ear inners and legs, but overall this terrier is in very fine condition for his age. He would make a delightful addition to any collection of plush dogs.

1950s Steiff Waldi Dachshund(Reference #05-9-22)
Waldi measures 13" from the tip of his nose to the tip of his tail. He has all the features associated with a Steiff soft toy: luxurious mohair plush, woodwool and kapok stuffing, beautifully embroidered nose and mouth, jointed head, and lots and lots of character. He lacks his button and swing tag, but there are no other defects to report.

1980 Dean's Rag Book Re-issue of 1920 Cloth Toby Dog 1980 Dean's Rag Book Re-issue of 1920 Cloth Toby Dog(Reference #LBC20)
In 1980, Dean's Rag Book of England re-issued a number of its most celebrated toys from its 1920 catalogue. In particular, it reproduced a number of its knockabout toys (toys that revert to their original position after being tapped lightly). On offer here is Toby, one of four knockabout toys in the home pets series. As the catalogue states: 'these are the familiar animals that never fail in their appeal to children. Brightly coloured, humorous in expression, each is about 8" high'. Made of printed cotton and hygienically stuffed, this is a toy to delight all ages. Moreover, this Toby is in absolutely immaculate condition with all the Dean's trade marks clearly printed on the base. (WR) US$28.00

1950s English Mohair Soft Toy Cat(Reference #00-4-6)
Probably made by Chiltern of England in the 1950s, this cheeky-looking cat has a body length of 8" (excluding the tail), is made of mohair plush, and has woodwool stuffing, glass eyes with felt surrounds, felt ears, original nose and mouth embroidery, and plastic whiskers. He is in very acceptable condition for his age, although he does suffer from slight loss of mohair, his squeaker no longer works, and his left ear lacks a small piece of felt and is stitched. However, he would still make a very attractive addition to any collection of soft toy cats. (WR) US$44.00

1986 Steiff Replicas Promotional Booklet 1986 Steiff Replicas Promotional Booklet(Reference #02-5-9j)
Published in 1986, this eight-page promotional booklet features 14 of Steiff's original replicas. The booklet measures 8" by 6", and has a picture of the replica 1880 pincushion elephant on the front. The back cover features the Richard Steiff Teddy, and the Steiff Original Teddy. At the time of publication, both of these bears had already sold out. The other toys included in the booklet are: Bully dog, Teddy-Clown, Tabby cat, bear on wheels, penguin, Dicky bear, Giengen Teddy bear set, Leo lion, Niki rabbit, 1909 'goldy' Teddy, and Roly-Poly bear. The booklet gives full details of each toy, including which ones are limited editions, and which are still available. It is in absolutely excellent condition and would prove an invaluable source of information for those of you interested in Steiff replica toys. (WR) US$30.00

1950s German Schuco Tricky Yes/No Cat Plush Toy(Reference #04-5-52)
Made by the German firm of Schuco in the 1950s, this Tricky cat has the famous lever-operated yes/no mechanism whereby the cat can nod and shake his head to signify either yes or no. This mechanism is still in full working order, although the cat itself is somewhat playworn. Measuring 5" long, the cat is made of grey mohair which is lacking in some areas and rust-stained in others where the metal has reacted with the plush. The cat also has black mohair behind velvet-lined ears, as well as green glass eyes, and fully jointed limbs. The only other defect to mention is that the cat lacks the mohair sleeve (tail) that would once have covered the metal lever that operates the yes/no mechanism. However, he still displays very well from the front, and the fact that he still works after half-a-century of play is just an added bonus.

1950s German Black and White Scottie Dogs (2) 1950s German Black and White Scottie Dogs (2)(Reference #00-12-22)
These delightful miniature Scottie dogs were probably made in Germany in the 1950s. They measure just 3 inches long, and have artificial silk-covered wooden bodies. Their eyes are plastic, their noses metal, and their tongues felt. They also have plastic dog collars and metal clips that would originally have been attached to a single lead (now sadly missing). The dogs are in very attractive condition for their age. The only minor defects to report are a slight lack of plush to the underside of the black dog, as well as a rusty nose, and the fact that the white dog leans to one side. They are, nevertheless, an attractive pair that would enliven any serious collection of this ever popular breed of dogs.

1950s English Dog Nightdress Case(Reference #6-4-84)
Made of synthetic plush, this 17 inch long black and white dog nightdress case has plastic eyes, kapok stuffing, a plastic nose, original mouth embroidery, and the original green ribbon. The zip and the quilted interior are both in good order. He suffers from some loss of mohair, particularly to the top of the head and his front paws, but is in otherwise good shape, although he is still prone to moulting. If you need a guardian for your night attire, then here's your chance. (WR) US$38.00

1968 Steiff Mecki Hedgehog - Button and Label 1968 Steiff Mecki Hedgehog - Button and Label(Reference # 00-12-33)
Steiff has had exclusive rights to the manufacture of Mecki hedgehog dolls since 1951. Mecki is a German cartoon character who first became popular in the early 1950s when he appeared in the TV magazine HORZU. This 10" tall Mecki is in quite exceptional condition, although he does lack his cardboard swing tag. Mecki has a vinyl jointed head, realistic bristles, a wool felt body with separately stitched fingers, jointed arms and legs, and a cotton costume. You can even see the mohair on his chest through his open-necked shirt. His costume - of patched and mud-bespattered trousers held up by string, a sweat-stained waistcoat and gingham shirt - is absolutely wonderful. He even still has his leather wallet hanging round the string belt of his trousers. The only slight defect is that he lacks one of two small buttons on his waistcoat. This hedgehog is of an unusually large size and very fine condition. For some reason, the heads of these toys are very prone to damage, so you do not see them intact that often .

Steiff has had exclusive rights to the manufacture of Mecki hedgehog dolls since 1951. Mecki is a German cartoon character who first became popular in the early 1950s when he appeared in the TV magazine HORZU. Made by Steiff in 1968, this 10" tall Micki is in exceptional condition. She is complete with her label, button and cardboard swing tag (hidden under her apron). Unbelievably, Micki still has her wooden spoon. This would usually have been the first item to go missing as it is not attached to the doll. Micki has a vinyl jointed head, realistic bristles, a wool felt body with separately stitched fingers, jointed arms and legs, and a cotton costume. A particularly appealing feature is the mud-spattered effect of her shoes. The only minor defect to report is some slight staining to the apron. This doll is of an unusually large size and very fine condition. For some reason, the heads of these toys are very prone to damage, so you do not see them intact that often.

1990s Merrythought Plush Pigs (2) 1990s Merrythought Plush Pigs (2)(Reference #01-3-02a)
Although they are of recent manufacture, these two plush pigs are no longer in the Merrythought catalogue, and are therefore no longer easily available. The smaller one (with the pink bow) measures 12" long, has synthetic plush, black plastic eyes, a delightfully upraised curly tail, and his Merrythought label. The other pig is also 12" in length, but measures 8" (rather than 6") in height. He has green and black glass-style eyes and an open mouth. Both items are in absolutely immaculate condition; they would make an appealing addition to any collection of plush pigs. (WR) US$44.00

1950s Siamese Cat Plush Toy(Reference #6-3-114)
Made in England in the 1950s, this seated Siamese cat measures 6" long. Made of mohair plush with kapok and excelsior stuffing, she has blue glass eyes, an embroidered nose and mouth, and felt ears. With her delicately shaded face, brown tail, and blue eyes, she is an extremely faithful representation of a real Siamese cat. Apart from a tendency to lean too far over (caused no doubt by fatigue over the years), and a small tear to one ear, she is in very good condition. (75 WR) US$24.00

1970s English Merrythought Jersey Cow 1970s English Merrythought Jersey Cow(Reference #5-9-169)
Made by Merrythought of England between 1970 and 1974, this Jersey cow measures 8" long (excluding the tail). Made of two-tone synthetic plush, the cow has kapok stuffing, suedette horns, suedette and felt hoofs, a felt mouth and tooth, and plastic eyes. Her Merrythought label is still sewn to her underbelly. The cow is in very good condition; she just has some wear (two moth holes; two smaller holes) to the felt sections of her hooves. She would make a charming addition to any collection of Merrythought or cow toys. (WR) US$30.00
