| | | Pair of 1970s Eastern European Peasant Puppets.(Reference #09-9-01rp)
Probably made in Eastern Europe in the 1970s, this delightful pair of peasant puppets represents an old man and an old woman, and measure 18" in length. The puppets have realistically moulded plastic heads, synthetic hair, and are dressed in cotton and felt costumes. The female puppet has a trademark of an M in an elephant on the back of her neck. The old man is in very good shape; the woman slightly less so: the front of her blouse is faded and some of the red colouring is missing from her nose. However, they are still a very appealing pair of puppets. US$30.00

| | Pre-1968 Boxed Pelham Schoolmaster String Puppet.(Reference #10-4-18)
This schoolmaster puppet is in excellent condition and does not appear to have been played with very much as he is very clean and is complete with both his mortar board and his cane. His opening mouth is in full working order and the strings are original and untangled, although the red one has broken and been re-tied at some stage. The puppet is contained in a larger than usual pre-1968 box which may or may not be original. As the cartouche for the name is blank, there is no way of verifying this. The box is in very reasonable condition for its age, but does suffer from slight tearing, and staining, as well as minor graffiti. US$98.00

| 1951 - 1965 Boxed Pelham White Poodle String Puppet.(Reference #09-12-4)
On offer here is the early version of the white poodle which is much harder to find than the black one which was made for 20 years longer than his white friend. The poodle is complete with his red bow and is in excellent condition. This 'simple dancing puppet' is contained in an early plain cardboard box which is in reasonable condition for its age, but does suffer from some paper loss and staining, and bears a faint handwritten inscription which might read 'white poodle from grandad'. Sweet!

| | 1960s Pelham MacBoozle String Puppet.(Reference #09-12-11b)
MacBoozle is the archetypal drunken Scotsman and he was one of the first opening mouth puppets that Pelham made. He is also relatively complicated as he has a bottle of beer in one hand and a handkerchief in the other. Measuring 13" long, MacBoozle is in very acceptable condition for his age, although he has been re-strung at some stage as all his strings are black. He is complete with sporran, tassels on his socks, and Scotch bonnet. There is slight wear to the wood of his legs and the metal of his hands, but nothing that detracts from the overall appeal of this much loved puppet. MacBoozle is contained in a sturdy plain cardboard box. US$90.00

| Post-1969 Boxed Pelham Old Lady String Puppet(Reference #09-12-8) The style of this puppet's box with the bar across the front indicates that it was made after 1969. The puppet is a comical representation of an old lady with bucket and mop, although she is rather dressed up to be doing the housework as she wears a fluffy blue boa and yellow felt cap with feather. The old lady measures 12" long and is in excellent condition. The opening mouth mechanism operates as it should, and the strings are in good order. The box too is in a good state. US$78.00

| | 1965 - 1986 Boxed Pelham Pirate String Puppet(Reference #09-12-7)
Pelham made this pirate puppet between 1965 and 1986. This is one of the earlier examples as he lives in a pre-1968 box. The puppet measures 13" long, and is in good condition for his age. His opening mouth still works, the strings are original and untangled, and the clothes are in good order. The only minor flaw to report is that there is slight paint loss to both feet. The box is stained, suffers from minor cardboard loss, and has PIRATE written in biro on one end. However, it is complete and intact.

| Boxed Pelham Disjointing Skeleton String Puppet(Reference #09-12-6)
Dating from the 1960s, this disjointing skeleton must be the most entertaining string puppet that Pelham ever made. Measuring a whopping 15" long, the skeleton is complete with its original box and instruction sheet which explains that the disintegrating skeleton is a very old and traditional act. Using this puppet with a stage and a black background, you can create an eerie atmosphere by sweeping the head and body out of sight and leaving the legs and arms dancing in mid-air. The puppet is in very good condition: the complex string and control system is completely original and untangled. The box is pretty good too, although it does have CHICKEN scrawled across the front in black felt tip.

| | 1960s Boxed Red Riding Hood Pelham Puppet(Reference #09-11-9) This nursery character puppet was in production from 1969 until 1986. Measuring 11" tall, Red Riding Hood has black hair (a blonde version was also available), a moulded head with painted facial features, white blouse, blue gingham skirt, and red hood and apron. In spite of the fact that the puppet is housed in a pre-1968 box, this is obviously one of the later puppets as it has the plastic legs with locking knee joint that were used between 1975 until 1985. Both the puppet and the strings are in very good condition; the box is best described as an intact disaster. It suffers from scuffing, creasing, tearing, staining and water damage. However, it's always a bonus to have an original box - whatever the condition. US$78.00

| 1960s Boxed Pelham Puppet Policeman(Reference #09-11-8)
Made in Marlborough by Pelham Puppets prior to 1968, this policeman string puppet measures 14" to the tip of his helmet. His opening mouth still works as well as ever it did, and his uniform is in absolutely pristine condition. The strings are original and untangled, and the only obvious defect is that the policeman lacks his truncheon - as is usually the case with this particular puppet. He is complete with the instruction leaflet and box which is creased and crushed, and has childish writing in the white space where the puppet's name should be.

| | Pre-1968 Boxed Pelham Witch Puppet(Reference #08-11-1)
Made by Pelham Puppets of England before 1968, this boxed witch puppet measures 14" tall to the top of her hat, and is in very good condition. Her opening mouth still works and her broomstick looks as good as new. The wig and clothes are in pristine condition, and the strings are original and untangled. The box is in less good condition than the puppet: it suffers from tearing, scuffing, and crushing. However, it's always a bonus to have the original box.

| 1960s Boxed Pelham Gypsy String Puppet(Reference #05-5-77)
Made by Pelham Puppets of Marlborough, England in the 1960s, this delightful wooden string puppet has the look of a real temptress. Measuring 12" tall, she is in absolutely immaculate condition: the strings are original and show no signs of tangling. The box, which dates from post-1968, is in less good condition, with scuffing, creasing and taping to the lid. However, it's always a bonus to have the original box.

| | 1990s UK Merrythought Rabbit Hand Puppet with Label(Reference #01-3-02mr) Although this plush rabbit hand puppet is of recent manufacture, it is not included in the current Merrythought catalogue, and is therefore no longer easily available. Standing 12" tall, the puppet is in 'as new' condition, and is complete with both labels and the paper swing tag. (WR) US$20.00

| 1960s Boxed Pelham Tyrolean Girl String Puppet(Reference #05-5-78) Dating from the 1960s, this Tyrolean Girl string puppet stands 11" tall, and is dressed in a gaily patterned cotton and felt costume. She is in excellent, original condition, and is also complete with her original 1968 yellow cardboard display box. This is in reasonable condition for its age, but does suffer from minor taping and cardboard loss, as well as childhood graffiti. It also lacks the cellophane panel from the front of the box.
