1960s Hong Kong Boxed Plastic Joke Camera(Reference #01-7-10tc)
This Golden Gate Product is marked EMPIRE MADE and was made in Hong Kong in the 1960s. Called WONDER CAMERA, it is a delightful trick toy. The camera is entirely made of plastic, measures 4" long, and is a very good representation of real cameras of the period. When you release the catch by the side of the lens, a felt mouse shoots out. The camera is in very good condition, as is the mouse. The box is stained and scuffed, and lacks one end flap, but it's something of a wonder that all three elements of such a delicate toy are still together after all these years. (#)

1883 Mourning Envelope with Stamp and Lock of Hair 1883 Mourning Envelope with Stamp and Lock of Hair(Reference #94-294)
Recently liberated from a Victorian attic, this mourning envelope (4.75" x 3.75") bears a penny stamp, a North West London postmark, the date of 4 March 1883, and an address in Hammersmith, London. It still contains the lock of blonde hair that was sent to the mourner all those years ago. A handwritten note on the back informs us that it contains Lot's hair and confirms the date of 1883. The envelope is torn across the top and bottom, but there are no other defects to report. (WR) US$20.00

Early 1900s Boxes for French Magic Tricks (2)(Reference #06-1-34)
This selection comprises two cardboard boxes for French magic tricks. They have, unfortunately, long since lost their contents. The first box is for the trick known as 'Le Clou du Diable' (devil's nail). Measuring 2.25" x 1.75", it features a very attractive graphic of a devil with the nail in question, and is in very good condition. The second box is for the trick known as 'L'Aiguille Merveilleuse' (marvellous needle'). It has an instruction sheet inside which is marked 'Surprise-Journal'. This box is not as exciting graphically as the first one, and it suffers from tearing to all four corners, and slight paper loss to the label. However, if you already own the relevant tricks, then having the original boxes would enhance their value considerably. (#) US$24.00

1948 French Printed Tinplate Child's Seaside Bucket 1948 French Printed Tinplate Child's Seaside Bucket(Reference #05-9-32d)
Clearly marked MADE IN FRANCE, this delightful tinplate pail stands 6" tall to the top of the handle. It was made in 1948 when the French tin toy industry resumed production after the end of WWII. It features a beach scene in the background with a donkey cart, complete with stubborn donkey, boy driver, and glamorous girl, in the foreground. The bucket is in very reasonable shape for its age. The printing is complete and intact, but the pail does suffer from some pitting and marking, particularly to the base and the handle, and there is a small split to one end of the handle. However, it would display very well and would make a delightful addition to any collection of seaside memorabilia. (WR) US$44.00

1950s English Diecast Revolver Novelty Pencil Sharpener(Reference #4-9-82)
Marked MADE IN ENGLAND and measuring just 1.75" long, this novelty pencil sharpener is in the shape of a revolver. It is in working order and good condition for its age: it just suffers from some slight factory re-touching to the red paint at the end of the barrel. (WR) US$20.00

1950s KeilKraft Scale Model Plans of RC Aeroplane 1950s KeilKraft Scale Model Plans of RC Aeroplane(Reference #02-10-04j)
This item comprises very detailed drawings and instructions (two sheets) for a KeilKraft Junior 60 remote control model aircraft. The two sheets measure 45" x 35" and 28.5" x 20.5", and are in good condition overall, although they do suffer from minor tearing and marking. (WR) US$20.00

1940s Model Aircraft Plans: Spitfire and Blackburn Skua(Reference #02-10-04x)
On offer here are two wartime scale model aircraft drawings, of a Supermarine Spitfire and a Blackburn Skua. They are both part of the 'famous square jig series of British planes', designed by the Model Aerodrome of Birmingham, England. The plans are very detailed and give you all the information you need to make the models. The Spitfire drawing measures 14" x 22"; the Blackburn Skua is 16" x 23.5". Both drawings are in very good condition; they just suffer from minor tearing to some edges and slight foxing. (WR) US$20.00

1930s German Boxed Child's Xylophone(Reference #4-6-115)
Sturdily made of wood and tinplate, this 11" long child's xylophone was probably made in Germany in the 1930s, although it is completely unmarked. The base is wooden; the metal notes are marked C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E; and one wooden striker is still present. The metal notes suffer from the inevitable age-related wear and scuffing. The original box is also somewhat distressed, as it suffers from tearing, taping and cardboard loss, but it does feature the most delightful label depicting four children playing with xylophones in a marching band.

Wooden and Metal Tambourine with 1858 Parchment Wooden and Metal Tambourine with 1858 Parchment(Reference #5-3-133)
Until 1995, this unusual item was on display at the Cotswold Doll and Teddy Bear Museum in England. It consists of a fairly standard wooden and metal tambourine (7.5" in diameter), but what makes it interesting is that the skin of the tambourine is a parchment dating from 1858. Written in the most exquisite copperplate handwriting, it is part of a business agreement between Thomas Chipperfield and 'the said Daniel'. There is some age-related spotting to the parchment, but it is completely intact, and the rest of the tambourine is also in good shape. It just lacks the original set of ribbons that would have been tied through the small hole in the wooden border. (WR) US$20.00

Pre-war Dutch Tinplate Child's Pail and Sand Toys(Reference #00-8-8c)
As the blue sand mould in this set is marked IMPORTE DE HOLLANDE, we can safely assume that it was made in the Netherlands for export to France, probably in the pre-war period. The set consists of a blue bucket (4" tall), the blue mould (4" long), and a green sand sifter (3" in diameter). This last item is in absolutely excellent condition; the mould suffers from slight paint loss; inevitably, the bucket suffers from some paint loss and corrosion, mainly to the top, although the corrosion appears to be completely stable. The three pieces are contained in a green net bag which is similar in style to the bag in which they would have been contained but, sadly, is not original as it is made of synthetic rather than natural fibre. However, if you're a fan of sand toys, then this is an interesting set that could be well worth acquiring. (WR) US$28.00

1926 Children's Printing Blocks - Golden Arrow Train 1926 Children's Printing Blocks - Golden Arrow Train(Reference #3-3-125)
In 1926, a new all first class Pullman train service, the 'Flèche d'Or' ('Golden Arrow'), was introduced between Calais and Paris. Southern Railway ran connecting ferry services and trains from Dover to London and, after a year or so, it decided to introduce a similar all first class Pullman service on the English side, with a new luxury ferry making the sea link. This set of seven wooden and rubber children's printing blocks celebrate the 'Golden Arrow'. They range in size from 1.5" x 1" to 1.5" x 0.5". They feature the name of the 'Golden Arrow', a signal box, a level crossing gate, the stationmaster with flag and whistle, a postman with postbag and parcel, a lady passenger with bag and umbrella, and a countryside scene as viewed from the train. Apart from the inevitable print marking, all of the blocks are complete and intact, and in good condition. (WR) US$20.00

1970 Boxed Airfix Plastic Diving Submarine(Reference #00-12-07d)
Made by Airfix of England in 1970s, this plastic diving submarine is still contained in its original box. Originally, it would have dived and surfaced courtesy of some propellant tablets. These are now missing, and the submarine has clearly been used, as one of the tail fins has been broken off (but is still present), and the conning tower lacks its three rods. However, the box is in pretty good shape, only suffering from minor scuffing and creasing, and you might like to acquire this model as a temporary measure until you find that elusive perfect one. 1950s Japanese Tin Toy Pocket Watch and Wristwatch (2) 1950s Japanese Tin Toy Pocket Watch and Wristwatch (2)(Reference #6-3-79)
On offer here are two cheaply made Japanese toys from the 1950s. The pocket watch measures 1.5" in diameter, and features an image of a cowboy and the words MADE IN JAPAN in the centre. It also has moving hands (although you can only move them together, not separately). The watch is in very acceptable condition for its age, but does suffer from some loss of gilding. The wristwatch can be adjusted to fit wrists up to 2", has an embossed floral design on the strap, is marked JAPAN, and has hands that can be moved in the same way as the pocket watch. This item too is in very good condition for its age. Both of these toys would be ideal bear props, so if you have a furry friend that needs to improve his punctuality, then here's your chance. 1850s European Ivory Teething Ring Pegs (5)(Reference #02-3-09tp)
Made in Europe in the Victorian era, these five pegs for a baby's teething ring are carved from ivory. They measure approximately 3" long and are in the shape of implements: a file, rolling pin, meat cleaver, truncheon, and bludgeon. Each of them has a hole for attaching to a teething ring that would probably have been made of silver. The pegs are complete and intact and in generally good condition for their age, but do suffer from minor scuffing and staining. They would make an interesting addition to any collection of nursery memorabilia. (WR) US$78.00

1970s Japanese Tin Insect Badges on Original Card 1970s Japanese Tin Insect Badges on Original Card(Reference #03-3-01j)
Made in Japan in the 1970s, this badge mount set comprises 12 beautifully lithographed insect badges. There are two examples in different colours of six different insects. These comprise a bee, ladybug, dragonfly, beetle, fly, and moth. The quality and detailing of the lithography is absolutely fantastic: these insects really shimmer and shine. They range in size from 1" to 1.5". The insects are in pristine condition, without any scratches or print loss. The pins on the back are also intact and in working order. Each insect is pinned to an individual section of the original retailer's card that could be torn off as and when it was sold. Fortunately, none of these has been sold separately, so the card is still complete. It just has a label stating that the badges are decorative items, rather than children's toys. These badges are an example of Japanese tinplate lithography at its very finest. Worn separately, they would make stunning brooches; framed just as they are, they would make a marvellous display piece. (WR) US$40.00

1950s Glass Marbles and Marble Games - in Packs (4)(Reference #3-10-248b)
On offer here are two packs of glass marbles from the 1950s, and two boxed indoor skittle games. All of the items are old shop stock, and are therefore still contained in their original packaging. The two bags contain 12 small, swirly glass marbles, were made in Hong Kong, and marketed in England by Hand Brand. The skittle games each contain ten plastic skittles, and two glass marbles for knocking them down. The games were also made in Hong Kong. There is some tearing and scuffing to the boxes, but there is no other damage to report. (WR) US$20.00

1970 UK Corgi 1928 Rocketlube Tune up Kit 1970 UK Corgi 1928 Rocketlube Tune up Kit(Reference #04-3-11)
Interested in the CORGI ROCKETS range, and the accessories that went with them? If so, then this item may be of interest, it is an unused ROCKETLUBE Tune up Kit still contained in the original unopened paper packet. The packet is worn, but we see no reason why the contents should not be viable. The packet measures 8 inches long, and states ROCKETLUBE the TUNEUP lubricant for racing speeds. (WR) US$20.00

1930s English Pen Holders on Original Card(Reference #3-10-424a)
Issued in the Emu Series in England in the 1930s, these Superior Pen Holders are still strung onto their original card (8 by 11.5 inches). There are 12 holders, decorated with that delightful swirly pattern that is so typical of the period. Six have nib holders and nibs, two have the nib holders only, and four have neither nib nor nib holder. They are, nevertheless, in good and unused condition. The original card has suffered slightly over the years and is subject to tearing, creasing and scuffing. This is an interesting item of writing memorabilia that would enliven any collection of such. 1950s Cardboard Sunglasses in Original Packet 1950s Cardboard Sunglasses in Original Packet(Reference #4-6-114a)
Here's an unusual item from the days when sunglasses were rather more of a novelty than they are now. Made of cardboard with mica for the lenses, they are still contained in their original packet. This informs us that they were issued in the Alderman Series and that they provide protection with safety. Furthermore, they have been scientifically designed with the object of giving sufficient protection from sun glare, whilst permitting the wearer to have the necessary clarity of vision when passing into shade from sunlight. The packet also notes that the glasses are not intended for looking at the sun. The sunglasses are in excellent condition, as is the packet. All it suffers from is two small taping marks to the rear. 1930s English China Nursery Mug(Reference #01-3-47)
Made in England in the 1930s, this charming child's mug (2.75 inches tall) is unmarked. It features the most delightful transfer printing, of a smiling teddy bear on a hobby horse on the front, and of a Mr Punch type figure on the rear. The mug does not suffer from any chips or cracks, but does have small manufacturing flaws to the bottom and rim, as well as some marking to one side. Overall, though, this is a lovely example of nursery china that would make a welcome addition to any collection of such items. (J) US$36.00

1950 Foreign Wooden and Plastic Whistles(Reference #2-3-97)
These four wooden and one plastic whistles were all made in the 1950s, probably in either Eastern Europe, or Hong Kong for the plastic trumpet whistle. The longest whistle measures 2" tall, and they all work except for the plastic trumpet, which may have blown its last post. The telescope-shaped whistle emits a sound when blown across, rather than down the tube. There are no other defects to report. These five assorted whistles could make an interesting addition to any serious collection of these delightful childhood novelties. (WR) US$20.00

Dating from the 1970s, these two unused Airfix kits comprise a model of a Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6, and a Sopwith Pup. Both kits are in original unmade condition, and are contained in their unopened blister packs. The packaging is worn around the edges, with some creasing and slight damp staining. The Sopwith Pup blister pack is also missing part of the assembly instructions from the back, although this would not prevent the kit from being made, as their construction is hardly rocket science. 1930s French Carded Tinplate Sand Toys Set(Reference #02-5-33)
Made in France in the 1930s, this 'Sur la plage' (on the beach) sand toys set is still attached to the original cardboard backing sheet. The set comprises a rake (10.5" long) with a wooden shaft, a sieve and two sand moulds. Although it has clearly never been played with, the set has suffered some deterioration over the years. The backing sheet is torn, stained, and suffers from significant cardboard loss down the left-hand side. All of the sand tools have suffered at some stage from slight rust damage; this has now been cleaned off. However, this is still an attractive set that is in eminently displayable condition; in particular, the graphics on the backing sheet showing children playing on the beach are an absolute delight. This is an item that would enhance any serious collection of sand toys. (125 #) US$30.00

1950s English Covered Wagon Plastic Kit 1950s English Covered Wagon Plastic Kit(Reference #3-11-20)
Made by Precision Miniatures of England in the 1950s, this 'authentic built-to-scale' plastic kit is of an American Wild West covered wagon. Still complete with its original cellophane bag and header card (7" x 6"), the kit is made of that hard green plastic that was so popular at the period. There are no obvious cracks, defects or losses; the cellophane bag is split at the bottom, but the kit has been kept carefully in another plastic bag so is probably still complete. This is an intriguing and unusual item that would grace any collection of plastic model kits. (TR) US$20.00

1920s UK Papier Mâché Clown Head Novelty(Reference #4-6-108)
This unusual novelty was probably made in England in the 1920s (or possibly earlier) and comprises a typical clown's head of the period. The head is made of papier mâché and is mounted on a wooden handle. The idea of the game is to shoot the pink paper ball through the clown's mouth using the elastic on the back. The elastic is still intact, but is no longer useable because of loss of elasticity. The head measures 5.5" by 4" and is in good condition for its age, although the handle is somewhat loose. This piece could well make an attractive backdrop to a collection of clown-related curios and memorabilia. (WR) US$20.00

1960s Plastic Hedgehog Candy Container 1960s Plastic Hedgehog Candy Container(Reference #01-2-5)
Probably made in England in the 1960s, this plastic hedgehog candy container stands 7.5" tall. He has an attractively moulded head and body with detachable head for inserting and removing sweets. The original contents have long since been eaten, and the body cavity is now filled with paper. Apart from the fact that the body has lost all its paint, there are no other defects to report. This is a delightful item that would fit equally well into a collection of hedgehogs or of candy containers. (50 #) US$30.00

1960s FROG Hobby Kit of OV-10A Bronco Plane(Reference #3-11-19)
Made by Rovex Industries (part of Tri-ang) of England under the FROG name in the 1960s, this plastic 1/72 international scale model assembly kit is old shop stock and is therefore in complete condition. Although the box has some age-related wear and staining, the parts are still sealed into their original plastic bag and the instructions, transfers and packing slip are all present and correct. This kit enables you to make one of two different models, so if hobby kits are your passion, this could well be the item for you. (WR) US$20.00

1920s Celluloid Woodpecker 1920s Celluloid Woodpecker(Reference #7-6-212)
Made in Japan in the 1920s, this attractively moulded celluloid woodpecker measures 3.5" in height. He is spectacularly - and very realistically - coloured, and his beady eyes clearly indicate that he is on the look-out for food, poised to dive into the water at the merest hint of a likely victim. He has MADE IN JAPAN and a trademark on his chest, and a registration number appears underneath the twig. The woodpecker lacks his original stand, but this has been sympathetically replaced by a wire one (included). He is in overall good condition, but does have a small dent behind his feet. However, we believe this to be part of the original moulding and it does not, in any case, seriously detract from the overall appeal. (25 WR) US$20.00

1950s Boxed Glass Camel Table Decorations(Reference #3-10-245a)
Marked FOREIGN and very much of their time, these two all glass table decorations measure 3.25" x 2.5" (rectangular shape) and 3.5" high (pyramid shape). They were made in the 1950s and are still contained in their original cardboard boxes (some tearing to lid corners). They were probably originally designed as Christmas table decorations. Each glass case with mirrored back contains two moulded camels, made from molten glass, one standing and one sitting, and with a pipe cleaner palm tree as background. The camels in each case are slightly different as each one has been made individually. Both glass display cases and their glass camels are undamaged; the only slight flaw is some tarnishing to the mirrored framing around the edge of each case. These items would make an unusual purchase for any discerning camel collector. (WR) US$20.00

1930s Cast Metal Toddler Doorstop 1930s Cast Metal Toddler Doorstop(Reference #5-3-148)
This rather bizarre item was previously on display at the Cotswold Teddy Bear Museum in the south of England. Measuring 5" x 5", it is made of cast metal and is therefore heavy. Clearly designed as a doorstop, it represents a seated toddler in a typical child-like pose with arms akimbo. It has attractively moulded hair, facial features, and body shape. The figure may once have had eyes of some kind; now it just has two holes in the middle of the eye moulding. In terms of condition, it appears to have suffered from some type of weather damage. This has caused discoloration (yellowing) to both the front and back of the figure. On the front, though, it just looks as if the child is wearing a yellow jumper. There is also staining to the bottom of the figure, possibly where it has sat on rain-soaked ground, and a small chip to two of the fingers on the right hand. However, these minor defects do not seriously detract from this most appealing and unusual vintage doorstop. (WR) US$20.00

1980 Leather Belt with Car Buckle(Reference #06-7-10a)
Made by Bergamot Brass Works in 1980, this 36" long leather belt has a heavy metal buckle in the shape of a 1930s-style American saloon car. Attractively cast, the buckle is as bright and shiny as it was when new. The belt fastens by means of a stud that fits into one of the four holes punched into the belt. Apart from the inevitable curling where the belt has been folded during storage, both the belt and the buckle are in very good condition. This item would make an unusual and interesting gift for any automobile lover. (WR) US$20.00

1930s and 1950s Magic Boxes (2) 1930s and 1950s Magic Boxes (2)(Reference #0-12-118)
This selection comprises a disappearing coin box still on its original cardboard backing sheet, and an earlier wooden hinged and clasped box, featuring a picture of a Chinaman on the top, two slots and a sheet of glass in the interior. Made by J & L Randall (Merit) of England in the 1950s, the magic coin case (4" x 1.5") is sturdily made of plastic, is complete and in full working order. It was a stalwart stand-by of magic sets and of the pocket money sections of toyshops throughout the 1950s. The older box measures 2.25" square and 0.75" deep. This is in very acceptable condition for its age; it just has slight scuffing to the illustrated surface and a small chip to the wood to the left of the clasp. This is an interesting selection that would enliven any collection of magic items. (WR) US$20.00

1930s Tin Picture of Chief Scout Baden-Powell(Reference #58-66)
Printed in England by Bemrose & Sons, this tinplate picture (8.5" x 10.5") shows David Jagger's 1929 painting of Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell, the founder of the scouting movement and chief scout of the world. The painting was a gift from the scouts of the world to their chief. The picture has a cardboard backing that incorporates both a stand for standing the picture on a flat surface and a loop of string for hanging it from a picture hook. Apart from one very small indentation to the surface of the picture (on the chief scout's forearm), it is in very good condition and would make an attractive addition to any collection of scouting memorabilia. 1970s Tin Litho Candy Container Lunchbox 1970s Tin Litho Candy Container Lunchbox(Reference #00-4-16 )
Originally containing 'assorted Spanish candies', this tin serves a number of purposes. Starting out as a candy container, it is lithographed as a baby bear's cradle so that a child could put its small bears to sleep in it. However, it is also clearly designed as a child's lunchbox for carrying small treats. Measuring 4" x 6", it was made in Spain in the 1970s. As already mentioned, the litho on the detachable lid depicts a baby bear in his cradle. He is wide awake, smiling and holding a rattle. The name of the candy manufacturer - DULCIORA - is also printed on the lid. The sides of the lunchbox are printed with lace edging, bells and bows of ribbon. The bottom gives details of the 'assorted Spanish candies' that were originally packed in the lunchbox. These, alas, have been consumed long since. The box is also equipped with a ridged plastic handle in the manner of an old-fashioned picnic basket. Apart from one very small scratch to the side of the lid, this lunchbox is in absolutely excellent condition. It would make a charming European addition to any serious collection of lunchboxes, candy containers or bear accessories. (WR) US$20.00

1950s Records for Toy Gramophones (5)(Reference #4-3-111a)
Straight from the wholesaler's warehouse, these records have never been touched by the hand of child. Made by Kid-E-Phone of England, the records are complete in their paper sleeves and tell the story of Rumpelstiltskin (one record set), Cinderella (two record set) and Red Riding Hood (two record set). The backs of the sleeves list all the titles in the series and inform us that the special scripts are by Dick Sadleir who may also be the narrator. Measuring 4" in diameter, the records are suitable for use with any toy gramophone such as those produced by Bing of Germany and Mettoy of England. Although the sound quality leaves something to be desired when compared with today's high fidelity reproduction, the sound of the human voice narrating the fairy tales is both audible and comprehensible. It also unleashes a wave of nostalgia for the innocent pleasures of childhood. All of the records are unbroken and unscratched and, apart from the inevitable creasing and minor tearing to the paper sleeves, are in excellent condition. (WR) US$30.00

Card of 1950s French Pencil Sharpeners Card of 1950s French Pencil Sharpeners (Reference #01-7-10g)
These ten 1950s plastic pencil sharpeners are still elasticated on to their original retailer's backing card. It proudly proclaims that they are STRIKING, ATTRACTIVE, ORIGINAL, PRACTICAL, and that they REALLY SHARPEN. The sharpeners comprise two locomotives, two yachts (one with its mast and sails missing), a helicopter, two jet planes, a windmill, a milk lorry and a petrol tanker. They range in size from 4" long (the locos) to 2.5" long (the yachts and the tanker). They are made of that hard thin plastic that is so characteristic of the period and all the vehicles have separate moving wheels so that you can actually push them along. This is an attractive set that would grace any serious collection of pencil sharpeners. (WR) US$50.00
