| | | | 1960s English Chad Valley Tinplate Hurdy-Gurdy.(Reference #4-9-47b)
Made by Chad Valley in the 1960s - the period when foreign holidays became available to the mass market for the first time, this delightfully printed tinplate hurdy-gurdy measures 6" x 5.5" x 3.5". The printing depicts a street scene in Venice with the hurdy-gurdy boy (of the rhyme on each end of the toy) figuring prominently. A rubber monkey (secured by a cork on a rod) sits atop the toy. Originally, when you turned the handle, the hurdy-gurdy would have played a tune and the monkey would have 'danced'. Sadly, neither of these things happens any more. However, this is a very attractive tinplate toy of the 1960s that would still display very well. US$30.00

| | 1960s Boxed Japanese Assorted Tin Friction Animals (5)(Reference #05-10-32) Made by Plaything of Japan in the 1960s, this box of assorted tinplate friction animals consists of a rabbit, cat, bear, squirrel and dog. This is different from the animals listed on the box (of which there are six), but the box and the contents clearly belong to one another. The animals vary in length from 1.5" to 2.5" and are all equipped with a fully functioning friction motor. They are beautifully lithographed and are in very good condition (apart from slight surface scuffing) as they are old shop stock. The only slight defect to report is that the rabbit's rubber ears have been replaced, as one of the tinplate ear tabs had broken off, and the original ears had obviously become loose and lost. The original box is an absolute delight with its naively drawn illustrations of the animals. It is complete and intact, but does suffer from some crushing, creasing and tearing. If you're a fan of unusual Japanese tinplate, then don't miss this opportunity. (#) US$130.00

| | 1960s Hong Kong Plastic Friction Santa Claus Tricycle(Reference #6-6-402) Made by MM of Hong Kong in the 1960s, this delightful Santa Claus toy is sturdily made of hard plastic and measures 4" tall. The toy is in excellent working condition, and only suffers from very minor paint loss, and the fact that the little bear that pops up and down in the sack as the tricycle goes along is probably a sympathetic replacement. He appears to be of a later date, but does a superb job of being an attractive present in the sack. (J) US$30.00

| 1930 German GN Tin Mechanical Hunting Figure(Reference #hunter)
Made in Germany in the 1930s, this all tinplate huntsman stands 7.5 inches tall, and is in play worn condition (probably spent too much time outdoors!!). He is marked MADE IN GERMANY on the base and GN on his hunting bag. He should have a spring operated lever on the base which when moved would raise and lower his rifle, this is missing. However, he will still perform by means of the armature, which runs down the back of his leg, and can be pushed back and forth to move the rifle. He is faded with some dry rust spotting, but is nonetheless an interesting novelty that may appeal to the hunting instinct in most collectors.

| | 1970s Portuguese Tinplate Donkey and Cart(Reference #03-7-3b)
Made in Portugal up until the 1970s, this charming donkey and cart is made of spray-painted tinplate, has a wheeled base under the donkey, and measures 9" long. The donkey has particularly attractively stencilled eyes, and the makers have thoughtfully provided a hole in the base for a pull-along string. The toy is in very good condition and pulls along on its wheels as sweetly as it did when new. The only slight defect to report is some very minor paint loss and wear to the left-hand flank of the donkey. This would make a delightful addition to any collection of animal-drawn or Portuguese toys.

| | 1950s Traffic Policeman Sparkler(Reference #7-9-139)
This French-made sparkler works fantastically well. Moreover, the action is hilarious. Push the plunger, the wheel spins and sparks, and a French traffic policeman (complete with kepi), pops out of the top of the tube, above the word STOP, and flings his arms out in a classic stop pose. The sparkler measures 5" from the bottom of the plunger to the top of the tube (without the policeman being extended), and is in good condition for its age. It would make a splendid addition to any collection of sparkler toys.
