Although this tinplate and wind-up train set is not marked, it was probably made either by Wells or Mettoy. One of the most interesting things about it is that it clearly dates from the immediate post-war period. The box clearly illustrates a British Railways locomotive (the railways were nationalised in 1948), but the tender has one of the pre-war railway company monograms on it (LNER - the London and North Eastern Railway). The set consists of a loco (4.25" long) with wind-up motor and integral key, a tender, one Pullman carriage, and four curved rails. The set looks as though it has been subject to water damage at some stage of its life, and all of the pieces suffer from some damage to the lithography. However, the set does still display very well from one side and the wind-up motor of the locomotive is in full working order. The box is complete and intact, and features a truly great graphic of a steam train at full speed, but does suffer from some water damage and a tear to one corner of the lid. (J) US$70.00

|  | 1960s Boxed Woolbro Friction Train Set(Reference #3-10-347)
Made in Hong Kong by Woolbro in the 1960s, this plastic and friction train set consists of a locomotive and tender, and two carriages. It measures 19 inches long and is still contained in its original cardboard box with very attractive graphics. The train set is complete and intact, and the friction motor still functions perfectly. The box suffers from minor crushing, tearing, and grubbiness, but is still in very acceptable condition overall. (WR) US$20.00

| 1950s UK Chad Valley Railway Spirit Tanker(Reference #5-12-14)
This item of Chad Valley rolling stock was made in the 1950s as part of a train set. It is made entirely of lithographed tinplate, and is in very good condition apart from some very minor marks to the ends. The tanker is marked MOTOR CV SPIRIT, and is complete with both couplings (often missing). If you collect Chad Valley railway, and need some additional rolling stock, then this may be that elusive piece you've been looking for. (J) US$24.00
