| Early 1960s Black Plastic French Colonial Costume Doll(Reference #06-3-6)
Possibly representing a French territory such as the Antilles or Guadeloupe, this 7" doll is made of attractively moulded black plastic and is, unusually, still complete with her baby on her back. She has jointed arms, sleep eyes, and all the components of her original costume which comprise a top, skirt, apron, baby sling, scarf, flower basket hat, metal hoop earrings, and bead necklace. The doll is in very attractive condition for her age; there is just some slight fading to the flowers on the hat as a result of the doll having been on display. She would make an absolutely stunning addition to any collection of either costume dolls in general or black dolls in particular.

| | Early 1960s Black Plastic African Costume Doll(Reference #06-3-5)
Although this delightful doll represents an African native in brightly coloured and decorated plastic costume, it was clearly made in the West, as it wears socks and shoes, and the fringe of a Western-style haircut is just visible on the forehead. The doll stands 7" tall, has jointed arms, black curly hair, and sleep eyes. Her costume is extravagantly decorated with beads, and the doll is complete with metal bracelets and bead necklace. She is in very good condition for her age, and would make a delightful addition to any collection of costume dolls.

The doll is fully jointed and is in absolutely excellent condition, apart from some age-related marking to her clothing and a small tear to one of the sleeves of the blouse. (WR) US$38.00

| 1960s Italian Labelled Lenci Plastic Costume Doll(Reference #5-3-277) This 6.5" tall plastic doll has a mohair wig, painted facial features, jointed arms, and wears a felt and cotton costume. The original 'Lenci Torino' label is still sewn to the underside of the skirt. There is a small hole to the bottom of the apron, some fading and staining to the dress, and slight paint smudging to the nose. Overall, though, this Lenci doll is in very good condition for her age. | | 1950s German Celluloid Swiss Costume Boy Doll(Reference #00-12-07s) Although it is unmarked, this delightful celluloid boy doll in Swiss costume (8" tall) was probably made in Germany in the 1950s. He has moulded hair, painted facial features, jointed arms and legs, and is dressed in a cotton shirt, felt trousers, and velvet jacket and hat. The hat bears the emblem of the Swiss flag. The doll is in very good condition for its age; the only minor defects to report are a small stain to the side of the trousers, and glue marks to the head where the hat was originally stuck on; this is now detached from the doll. (WR) US$30.00

| 1930s English Composition and Cloth Scotsman Doll(Reference #5-8-203)
Made in England in the 1930s, this 8" tall Scotsman doll has a composition head and soft-stuffed cloth body with felt jacket, tam-o-shanter, and shoes, together with cotton kilt and socks. The doll has transfer printed eyes, and painted facial features. The body is in superb condition for its age; the head, however, is damaged as both cheeks have been re-painted. This is noticeable, but does not really detract from the overall appeal of this doll from north of the English border.

| | 1930s European Composition and Cloth Boy Costume Doll(Reference #7-10-184) This 12" tall costume doll was probably made somewhere in Eastern Europe in the 1930s as he is dressed in a white linen costume with trousers, waistcoat, flared sleeves, apron, and tall black hat. He has a soft-stuffed cloth body with jointed arms and legs, and a composition head with painted facial features. Apart from some slight surface grubbiness, the doll is in good condition for his age. The only defect to mention is that a previous owner has stuck two adhesive pads to the head to keep the hat in position. The head also has three pin-holes in it which was obviously the original means of attaching the hat to the head. However, neither the pin-holes nor the adhesive pads are visible when the hat is in position. The doll has a particularly soulful expression and would make a stunning addition to any collection of costume dolls. (WR) US$30.00

| 1950s Austrian Baitz 'Whistling' Costume Doll(Reference #6-1-34) Made by Baitz of Austria, this delightful doll in authentic costume is one of a series called 'whistler dolls' because, to judge from the shape of their mouths, they are engaged in that activity. Baitz dolls are always very attractively dressed, and this example is no exception. Measuring 8.5" tall, the doll has a mohair wig, composition head with painted facial features, and a soft-stuffed cloth and felt body. The costume is in beautiful condition, and is so pristine that it still includes the cardboard underskirt to keep the skirt in shape. | | 1960s Black Vinyl Jointed Maori Doll - Original Costume(Reference #02-7-5l) Although it is unmarked, this charming little doll (8" tall) is clearly meant to represent a Maori. Made of vinyl, the doll is fully jointed, has transfer and painted facial features, including tribal markings, and synthetic rooted hair. She still wears her original costume. This comprises a red underskirt, a 'grass' straw skirt, cloth top, feather shawl, and rather bizarre black plastic charm figure round her neck. The shawl used to be glued to the doll's arms, but has now become detached, leaving the glue marks visible on the arms. However, there are no other defects to report. (WR) US$24.00

| | 1960s Vinyl Chinese Costume Doll(Reference #02-7-5c) Although it is not marked, we believe this fully jointed vinyl doll to have been made in China in the 1960s. She has rooted hair styled in traditional Chinese fashion, and a particularly attractive facial expression. She is dressed in traditional costume, but this has suffered somewhat over the years in that it is both faded and torn. This damage is most apparent to both sleeves, the sides of the trousers, and the back of the tunic. However, she is still an attractive doll in displayable condition and would be of particular interest to those with a passion for Chinese dolls. (WR) US$20.00
