1950s English Lead Iguana(Reference #LBC16)
We have not been able to identify the maker of this rather cheeky-looking iguana. He measures 3" long and is in reasonable shape for his age, although he does suffer from some paint loss as well as two small cracks: one just behind his neck and the other at the beginning of his tail. However, he is a very attractive lead figure that still displays very well. (WR) US$20.00

1923 Kew Pixyland Hollow-Cast Lead Penguin 1923 Kew Pixyland Hollow-Cast Lead Penguin(Reference #8-3-02kp)
Standing 1.75" tall, this hollow-cast Kew Pixyland lead penguin is somewhat over-sized in comparison with other lead zoo animals. However, it is a particularly appealing figure that is not especially easy to find. It suffers from some paint loss, mainly to the front, but is nevertheless still a desirable figure. (WR) US$20.00

1930s Lead Firemen from Fire Engine - T&B or Charbens?(Reference #4-3-335)
This selection comprises five identical seated lead firemen which clearly originally belonged to a 1930s lead fire engine, probably made either by Taylor & Barrett or by Charbens. The figures measure 1.25" high and have a rounded prong in their posterior for slotting into the seats of the engine. They are in remarkably good paint condition for lead figures of this vintage. If your lead fire engine is missing its crew, then here's your chance to make it complete once again. (WR) US$110.00

Price: £55.00

1930s Lead Firemen from Fire Engine - T&B or Charbens?

1930s English Johillco Lead Fire Engine 1930s English Johillco Lead Fire Engine(Reference #5-11-55)
On offer here is a lead fire engine made by Johillco of England in the 1930s. The fire engine measures 3.5" long and is in very reasonable paint condition for its age, although it does lack its ladder, string, and all the firemen. On the positive side, however, it still has its steering wheel, headlights, all four wheels with tyres, and cranking handle. If you're lucky enough to have the same toy with some parts missing, then this could be an ideal opportunity to make it complete. (WR) US$110.00

1930s French Lead Set of Hare and Tortoise(Reference #5-7-20g)
Made in France in the 1930s, this charming five-piece lead set represents one of Aesop's fables: the hare and the tortoise. The five pieces are the starting and finishing signs, the tortoise on his slow but steady way, the hare taking it easy by the side of the course, and the hare racing when it was already too late. The pieces are relatively crudely cast, but are nevertheless extremely attractive. The signs and the sleeping rabbit are 1.75" in height. All of the pieces are complete and intact, but do suffer from the relatively minor paint loss associated with lead items of this vintage. The only other defect to report is that the arrivée and départ paper labels have been colour reproduced from an original. This is a delightful - and unusual - set that could appeal either to collectors of lead items or to those interested in Aesop's fables. (#) US$50.00

If you need some extra figures to liven up your Britains hospital scenes, then here's your chance. (WR) US$30.00

Early 1900s French SFBJ Box of Composition Farm Figures(Reference #04-7-5)
The SFBJ (Societe Francaise de Fabrication de Bebes et Jouets) was formed by leading French doll and toy makers in 1899 to combat the growing competition presented by the German manufacturers who had perfected their mass-production methods. On offer here is an early SFBJ boxed set of 38 composition farm figures, sold under the title of 'animaux incassables' (unbreakable animals) and with the promise of 'couleurs inoffensives' (harmless colours). The figures range in size from 2" to 1" in height. They comprise five sheep, one sheepdog, two shepherds, four cows, one milk churn, seven trees of two different types, three pigs, one cat, two milkmaids, three rabbits, three goats, three donkeys, and three horses. In spite of the promise on the box lid that the figures are unbreakable, there is some slight damage to report. One of the cows lacks the lower section of its two back legs, another cow lacks the lower section of one of its back legs, two of the pigs lack one leg, and one of the wooden trees lacks its circular wooden base. There is also some minor paint loss, chipping and scuffing to some of the figures. However, overall, the set is in pretty stunning condition for a toy that is over 100 years old. As far as we can judge from the stringing, the set appears to be substantially complete, although there is a section in the lowest row of the box that does not have any stringing holes in it. We have not been able to ascertain why this is. The box measures 17.5" by 14", and has a wooden base with cardboard inserts and lid. The lid features the most delightful label of farmyard animals grazing. The label is in very good condition for its age. The box suffers from some staining, tearing, and scuffing, and lacks one complete side section, as well as a part of two others. However, it's always a bonus to have the original box and this one is in fairly remarkable condition given its age. This would have been an expensive and luxurious toy in its day. We have had smaller sets in the past, but this is the first time we have seen such a comprehensive set as this one.

Sturdily made of hard and very tactile plastic, the figures measure just 2" tall (3" mounted). They represent a clown holding a hoop, one supporting two others on his hands, and one balancing on two cantering horses. All of the figures are complete, intact and in very fine condition. They would make a stunning addition to any collection of circus figures in particular or of plastic figures in general. (50 #) US$50.00

1960s UK Britains Plastic Farm Figures (5)(Reference #6-6-383)
Made by Britains in the 1960s, this selection comprises a draughthorse (the holes in the flank indicated that it originally pulled a vehicle of some kind), a pig, a shepherd carrying a lamb under one arm, a kid, and a female farmhand (may be missing something from the right-hand side). Apart from the kid which is too small to bear any markings, the pieces are all either marked with the Britains or the Herald name. They are all complete and intact, and only the female figure suffers from any paint loss - and this is only minor. Here's your opportunity to add some further animation to your 1960s farmyard. (WR) US$20.00

1950s French Aluminium Police Motorcyclist(Reference #02-5-29)
Made in France in the 1950s, by an unknown maker (possibly Quiralu), this delightful model measures 3.5" long, and is in playworn condition. It does suffer from paint loss, as can be seen from the photograph, but is nonetheless in a collectable state, and is a very good representation of a French police motorcyclist of this period. The toy has a chunky tactile appeal, and would display well in any motorcycling related collection. (100 #) US$76.00

1930s/50s Lead Farm Accessories (10) 1930s/50s Lead Farm Accessories (10)(Reference #6-8-202)
This selection comprises four Britains milk churns, two Barrett and Sons feeding troughs, and four haystacks, two made by Britains and the remaining two by F G Taylor and Sons. Incredibly, all the milk churns still have their tiny separate lids. All the pieces are complete and intact, but do suffer from the relatively minor paint loss associated with lead pieces of this vintage. This is more obvious on one of the Britains haystacks than on any of the other nine pieces. This is an attractive selection that would enliven any display of miniature farming. (WR) US$50.00

1930s Taylor & Barrett Lead Donkey Ride Set 1930s Taylor & Barrett Lead Donkey Ride Set(Reference #01-5-12c)
The North London firm of Taylor & Barrett issued two versions of this delightful lead donkey ride set in the period before WWII. The two Barrett brothers and F G Taylor founded the firm in 1920; it flourished until the factory fell victim to an air raid in 1940, but could not be revived post-war. Instead, it gave birth to two separate companies: F G Taylor & Sons and A Barrett & Sons. This is the later (1930) version of the donkey ride set and is complete apart from the hut (the one piece that is most commonly missing). The set comprises a resting donkey, donkey foal, a boy and a girl (cast separately) riding donkeys and being led by a man, and a hitching fence and post that reads 'two pence all the way'. The man stands 1.75" tall; the children on the donkeys are approximately the same height. The individual figures are clearly marked T&B and are in very good condition. There are no chips or cracks and only very minor paint loss. This is confined to the saddles of both donkeys and the right arm of the man. This is a charming and evocative set that brings back childhood memories of donkey rides on English beaches (usually in wet and windy weather!). If you've never experienced the real thing (or even if you have), here's your chance to own a miniature substitute. (WR) US$200.00
