1950s Blyton Noddy Leap Frog Game with Golly Character 1950s Blyton Noddy Leap Frog Game with Golly Character(Reference #8-4-51)
Made by Quality Games of Australia in the 1950s, this is an unusual Little Noddy game. Entitled 'Little Noddy's Leap Frog Game', it consists of the original box (9.5" x 12"), a playing board (18" x 11.25"), a dice, four green counters to represent the frogs, and eight counters of different colours to represent the eight characters. The instructions are ambiguous, so it is not clear whether the game originally had playing pieces, or whether it always had this particular combination of counters. Whatever the case, it is now eminently playable. The frogs have asked Noddy and his friends to a party in their big house pond and to play leap frog on the way there. The first player to get his frog and two characters to the home pond is the winner. Both the box lid and the playing board feature some great graphics of the original Blyton gollies before they were airbrushed out of the stories. The board is slightly stained and worn down the crease; the box is scuffed, torn, subject to some graffiti, and has been restored with brown tape in the interests of preservation. However, this is still an unusual and very desirable piece of Noddy memorabilia. (WR) US$30.00

1920s China Wilfred Figure from Pip, Squeak and Wilfred(Reference #5-4-45)
This delightful china figure (1.5" tall) represents Wilfred the rabbit who, together with his two companions Pip and Squeak, first appeared in a cartoon strip in 'The Daily Mirror' in May 1919. The figure is delightfully moulded and is complete and intact, but does have a miniscule nick to the outer edge of one ear, and also suffers from some accretion of material to the lower section. However, he is still in good enough condition to make an attractive addition to any collection of Pip, Squeak and Wilfred memorabilia. (WR) US$30.00

1930s Kensitas Carl Anderson Henry Cigarette Cards (5) 1930s Kensitas Carl Anderson Henry Cigarette Cards (5)(Reference #8-9-274)
Issued by Kensitas in the 1930s, these five cigarette cards (3" x 2.5") feature Carl Anderson's Henry character. They were formerly on display at the Arundel Toy Museum in the south of England. The cards feature Henry playing a cash register as a musical instrument, taking his shoes for repair into a fishmonger's displaying the legend 'soles and eels', getting a piggy-back ride from a fireman as he slides down the pole, selling shelled nuts on a beach using a lobster to do the shelling, and painting a black patch onto a white dog so that he resembles a lost dog for which there is a hefty reward. One of the cards is creased across the middle, but the others are all in very fine condition. (WR) US$20.00

1960s English Batman and Robin Game with Flying Batman(Reference #LBC53)
We've owned this Batman and Robin game since the 1960s and was hoping that the box lid and instructions would turn up, but sadly this hasn't happened. The game has a National Periodical Publications Inc copyright date of 1966, and is still contained in its original box base (11" square). A separate printed cardboard square with nine different vignettes sits in the base. The central one of these shows Robin chained and bound, and I think the objective of the game was for Batman to rescue him. The other eight vignettes feature Batman in action against various villains, including the Penguin and the Joker. The plastic playing pieces are four different coloured figures of Batman in an about to land pose. These are weighted because you launch them into flight and into the nine sections of the box by pressing on one end of the flipper with a Batman figure in position on the other. The original protective plastic grid still sits on top of the printed card and demarcates one section from another. The game is complete with its four figures, four flippers, and 32 different coloured plastic counters but, as noted previously, does lack the box lid and the instructions. The only minor defect to report is that the box bottom is slightly distorted and is split at two corners. However, this is still a piece of 1960s Batman memorabilia with absolutely stunning graphics. 1978 BBC Film Fair Paddington Bear Card Game 1978 BBC Film Fair Paddington Bear Card Game(Reference #05-4-5)
Made in Hong Kong by Whitman under licence from the BBC, this Paddington Bear card game is still complete in its original packet and wrapped in cellophane. It has therefore never even been opened, let alone played. There are 44 cards in the pack, four each of 11 different Paddington scenes. The object of the game is to win all the cards: when two cards with the same picture turn up, the players involved must say 'marmalade' three times. The first to finish takes the two piles of cards. If you're a Paddington fan, then don't miss this opportunity to acquire this mint and boxed item. (#) US$20.00

1920s Children's Printing Blocks - Attwell Characters(Reference #3-3-122)
These two wooden and rubber children's printing blocks measure 3.75" x 2.5" and 3.25" x 2". Although they are not marked with her name, they both feature characters by Mable Lucie Attwell: a chubby policeman holding up the traffic, and a girl in a huge hat and flouncy dress on her way to market. Apart from the inevitable print marking, both blocks are complete and intact, and in good condition.

1930s Chloe Preston Dinkie Dog China Trinket Holder 1930s Chloe Preston Dinkie Dog China Trinket Holder(Reference #04-9-1)
Dinkie Dog was one of illustrator Chloe Preston's best loved creations. Dinkie is a snub-nose pup with googly eyes. Chloe Preston designed toys for the English soft toy manufacturer Farnell, and Dinkie was her major success for the firm. He was a popular subject for toys, postcards, and china from the 1930s right through until the 1950s. On offer here is a Dinkie Dog china trinket holder, measuring 4.5" long. His head acts as the lid and there is plenty of space inside to hold either jewellery or all those little bits and pieces for which you can never find a suitable home. Dinkie has a particularly appealing expression with his eyes cast heavenward, and would make an attractive addition to any collection either or character china or of Chloe Preston memorabilia. Dinkie is in very good condition for his age: there is just very minor paint loss to the left front paw. (WR) US$64.00

Boxed 1956 Spear's Games Noddy Stencil Outfit(Reference #04-5-60)
Made by Spear's Games in 1956 under licence from the Noddy Subsidiary Rights Company, this boxed Noddy stencil outfit is in very good condition. Although it has been played with, it still has all ten complete stencils of Noddy, Big-Ears, Noddy in his car, Big-Ears on his bike, Mr Plod, Mr Tubby Bear and his wife, the Toyland train, and two of the houses. The paint rack is complete and intact, and only the paintbrush appears to be missing. There is some paint smudging to both the stencils and the paints, but no other defects to report. The box features a delightful graphic of Noddy using the stencil set and is in excellent condition, with only very minor scuffing. (WR) US$50.00

1960 Boxed Spear's Games Noddy's Ring Game 1960 Boxed Spear's Games Noddy's Ring Game(Reference #04-5-61)
Made by Spear's Games of England in 1960 under licence from the Noddy Subsidiary Rights Co Ltd, this ring game features all your favourite characters. As well as Noddy and Big Ears, there's the Tubby Bear family, Mr and Mrs Noah, Mr Plod and, of course, the Golly - to name but a few. The game consists of throwing rubber rings over the characters. The game is complete with all four rings, but the cardboard interior has suffered somewhat over the years. Three of the characters have creased necks, and the support for the front row of characters has become completely detached from the row itself. However, this does not prevent the game from being played, nor does it affect how well the game displays. The box lid is complete and intact, but does suffer from some staining and tearing. If you're a fan of Noddy and his friends, then here's an opportunity to acquire a colourful item for your collection. (WR) US$36.00

1937 French Hachette Bonzo Alpiniste Cartoon Book(Reference #04-9-10)
Published by Hachette in France in 1937, this Bonzo cartoon book measures 11" by 12.5". It features 13 separate stories in French, including Bonzo mountain climber, Bonzo disguises himself, Bonzo's dream, Marcassin falls asleep, Bonzo the soldier, the craftiest one, Bonzo at the zoo, Bonzo the motorcyclist, Bonzo goes camping, a game of chess, Bonzo the fisherman, the magic lamp, and Bonzo the sculptor. The book is in reasonable condition for its age, but does suffer from some coloured crayon marks to the front cover, one tear to the back cover, minor tearing to the spine, some age-related staining and marking, and slight creasing to the corners. However, it's not at all bad for a cartoon book that is almost 70 years old. (#) US$44.00

1960s Plywood Arrow Games Noddy Children's Jigsaws (2) 1960s Plywood Arrow Games Noddy Children's Jigsaws (2)(Reference #04-5-65)
These two complete Noddy jigsaws are both made by Arrow Games and date from 1967 and 1969. The larger, earlier one depicts 'Noddy in the Garden', measures 10" by 8", and has 15 large pieces. The puzzle itself is in excellent condition; the box suffers from some tearing and graffiti to the bottom. The smaller, later puzzle is 'Noddy Paints a Picture', measures 8" by 5.5", and has 12 large pieces. The puzzle suffers from slight raising of the paper to the edges of a couple of pieces but is in otherwise sound condition; the box suffers from slight staining and marking, but is complete and intact. If Noddy's one of your favourite characters, then don't miss this opportunity to acquire these two complete puzzles. (WR) US$44.00

Boxed 1959 Noddy in Fuzzy-Felt Toyland(Reference #04-5-64b)
Allan Industries issued this Noddy Fuzzy-Felt set in 1959 under a licence granted by the Noddy Subsidiary Rights Company. The set comprises the usual Fuzzy-Felt board, nine Noddy characters, and a selection of felt shapes so that you can make your own Toytown pictures. There are no defects to report to the contents, but the box and the plastic interior are somewhat playworn. The box (11" x 7") suffers from taping, tearing, paper loss, and graffiti, but still serves its purpose of keeping the delightful contents safe. (WR) US$40.00

1976 Hong Kong Superman Ball Target Game 1976 Hong Kong Superman Ball Target Game(Reference #04-3-10)
This SUPERMAN target game was made in Hong Kong in the 1970s, and measures 13 inches square. The object of the game is to throw the Velcro covered balls at the target to see who can score the highest. Superman is depicted in one of his many typical poses, and the padded board is in good condition. One ball is missing, as the game should have a blue one to complete the set. If Superman collectibles are your passion, then this attractive 1970s toy may be of interest. (WR) US$20.00

1980s English Rupert Bear Pyjama Case(Reference #00-11-38)
Tebro of England made this 25 inch tall Rupert Bear pyjama case in the 1980s. Made of synthetic materials, Rupert has plastic eyes, a moulded plastic nose, and an embroidered nose and mouth. He is also still complete with his detachable check scarf - a bonus in anyone's book. Rupert is in very acceptable condition for his age; all he suffers from is a small catch to the right trouser leg, slight loss of plush to the face, and some surface marking. All in all though, he would make an absolutely splendid guardian for your night attire. Please note that the stand is not included. (J) US$36.00

1960s German Goscinny Obelix W/U Novelty Toy 1960s German Goscinny Obelix W/U Novelty Toy(Reference #03-9-38b)
Made in West Germany in the 1960s, this is a relatively rare toy these days, probably because of its somewhat fragile nature. Made of tinplate, pressed cardboard and vinyl, the toy represents Rene Goscinny's character of Obelix, Asterix's heavyweight menhir-bearing friend. Standing 8.5 inches tall when at rest, Obelix is equipped with a fully functioning wind-up motor and an integral key. Wind him up and he somewhat ponderously extends himself to his full height, straining to raise the obviously heavy menhir (actually made of polystyrene) as he does so. He then lowers the menhir again, moving his head and angling his arms as he does so. One of the best things about this toy is that it so accurately mimics the effort required to lift a heavy object. Another of the good things about it is that it is such a good representation of the cartoon character. Obelix is in very good condition for his age and is still complete with both his original labels. The one on the chest is from the West German manufacturer; the one of the sole of the right foot is from Dargaud, the French publisher of the stories. Apart from some slight surface grubbiness, Obelix is free of flaws. (#) US$280.00

1930s Ellgreave China Bonzo Moneybox/Bank(Reference #01-6-9v)
Although in our view this ceramic bank does not remotely resemble Bonzo, the bottom of the bank is clearly engraved ELLGREAVE, ENGLAND, BONZO. Made by the Ellgreave Pottery Co of Burslem, Staffordshire, Bonzo stands 8 inches high and is complete and intact, only suffering from minor scuffing. The coin slot is in his muzzle; the coin retrieval slot is in the base, but it lacks the rubber stopper. There are no other defects to report. Even if this bank is not a classic representation of the Studdy Bonzo, it is still an interesting piece of Ellgreave ware in its own right. (WR) US$20.00

1958 UK Diecast Morestone Noddy in his Car(Reference #01-12-70)
Morestone made this charming model of Noddy in his car in the years 1958 to 1961. It measures 1.75" long, and is driven by a plastic Noddy figure, which as is usual with this toy has lost nearly all its paint. The car has fared somewhat better, and has most of its paint still intact. It is in sound condition apart from missing one windscreen strut, and a bent end to the front bumper. None of the Morestone Noddy series is easy to find, and this example is not expensive for its condition, and would display well amongst other Noddy memorabilia. (#) US$44.00

1973 Spears Boxed Alice in Wonderland Game 1973 Spears Boxed Alice in Wonderland Game(Reference #02-1-6)
This is an unusual and interesting game made by Spears of England in 1973 in complete boxed condition. The game comprises an attractive folding board (approximately 14" x 14") illustrated with characters and scenes from the story. There is some slight damage to the center of the board where it folds in half to fit in the box. There are six plastic double-sided playing pieces, with big and small illustrations of Alice, the White Rabbit, The Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Duchess and the Queen of Hearts. In addition there is one 'Looking Glass' playing piece; one wooden dice and a plastic throwing cup. The game is complete with both its instructions (inside the lid) and a separate leaflet with a synopsis, by Gyles Brandreth, of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Alice through the Looking Glass', (with French and Dutch translations). The box is complete with all its original inner packing and is in generally good condition, apart from wear to the edges, a tear to one side and a split to one corner. In summary, a delightful and intriguing game made for only a short period, which should appeal to collectors of 'Alice' memorabilia or those with a more general interest in games. (TR) US$44.00

Standing 5.5" tall, this appealing doll is a French comic character. Sturdily made of moulded composition, the doll is equipped with a particularly heavy pair of feet that enable it to stand independently. The joints are made of wire and can therefore be posed in different positions. The figure is dressed in a tailcoat with over-long tails and an over-sized white wool felt collar. The moulding of the head and hands is very attractive. Apart from slight scratching to the right eye, the figure is in very good condition. (50 #) US$20.00

1970s Popeye Cigarette Lighter 1970s Popeye Cigarette Lighter(Reference #7-9-105b)
Made in Japan under licence from King Features Syndicate in the 1970s, this cast metal cigarette lighter stands 2.75" high. Please note that this is an original 1970s item, and not the 1990s reproduction. The lighter is a good representation of the famous cartoon character. It is designed to work by depressing Popeye's left arm; the flame then shoots out of Popeye's pipe on the other side. Unfortunately, this version is not in working order. The lighter is in fair to good condition, but does suffer from some paint loss. This is most apparent to the chin, both ears and arms, right front trouser leg, hat, and back of the shirt. However, none of this really detracts from the overall appeal and attractiveness of this novelty lighter. (100 *) US$78.00

Of the second 66 cards (nos 67 to 132), 44 make up into a jigsaw of Superman in flight (two of these cards - nos 81 and 104 - are missing), and the remaining 22 are movie facts cards. The cards are in fair to good condition: a couple are badly creased, but mostly they just suffer from minor creasing and scuffing to the edges. 1940 Bruin Boys' Annual 1940 Bruin Boys' Annual(Reference #9-2-01b)
This annual (11" x 8") of the famous characters who appeared each week in 'The Rainbow' comic in England in the 1930s and 1940s is in very good condition. The binding is intact, the 104 pages are all firmly in position, and there is no child's graffiti. Even the 'this book belongs to' page has been neatly filled in. The paper is of rougher quality than usual and there is only one colour plate, but these were both as a result of wartime rationing. The only minor defects to report are scuffing to the corners of the covers and age-related staining to the edges of the pages. Take a nostalgic trip back to childhood with this entertaining read. 1930s Nipper's Snakes and Ladders Game(Reference #00-12-06c)

The box just has minor scuffing and tearing. The game is complete with instructions (printed on the back of the lid), and a dice. 1930s Celluloid W/U Man and Pipe (Popeye) 1930s Celluloid W/U Man and Pipe (Popeye)(Reference #8-5-58)
Made in Japan in the 1930s, this is an attractively moulded celluloid figure of a man with pipe (7.5" tall). When wound (please note that a key is not supplied), he moves around raising his head up and down on his neck and jiggling his arms that are attached loosely to his body. He is very reminiscent of Popeye but, if intended to be him, the toy represents the character when he was younger, still had hair, and before he took to the sea-faring life. Alternatively, of course, he could be Popeye Junior - Popeye's son! The more likely explanation of his resemblance to Popeye is that it was an attempt on the part of the Japanese manufacturer to make and market a Popeye figure without having to pay King Features Syndicate a licence fee on the sales. The figure is in very good condition with only one small split in the back of the bottom of the jacket where the wind-up motor is fixed. This probably occurred during manufacture and is very secure with no sign of looseness. This is an item for the discerning collector of celluloid novelty toys or for the Popeye collector who wishes to add depth and greater variety to his or her collection. (50 #) US$700.00

1950s Mabel Lucie Attwell Pictures (2)(Reference #3-10-192)
These delightful Mabel Lucie Attwell pictures are framed in wood and covered with glass. One shows a little girl walking along the beach and holding a rapidly melting ice-cream cone; the other depicts a little boy deep in slumber, blissfully unaware that a spider is about to make contact with his head. Each picture measures 5" x 5.5" and is signed Mabel Lucie Attwell in the corner. The picture of the little girl is in very good condition; the one of the little boy has two slight tears (in the top left-hand corner and on the right-hand edge towards the top). However, these slight blemishes do not detract significantly from the overall attractiveness of these two pictures.
