| | | 1950s English Black Celluloid Doll(Reference #08-5-2) Made in England in the 1950s, this black doll (6.75" tall) is made of celluloid - which is unusual in itself. She has jointed limbs, painted facial features and shoes, moulded hair and clothes, and original metal earrings. The doll has 'white' features and blue eyes, rather than negroid ones. She would, originally, have had paper clothes stuck to the celluloid; these have long since disappeared, although a few remnants remain. Apart from that, the doll is in very good condition. | | 1930s Celluloid Boy Doll(Reference #8-10-16) This celluloid boy doll has one of the most soulful facial expressions ever seen on a doll. Measuring 11" in length, he is fully articulated with a socket head and five-piece bent limb toddler body. He has exquisitely moulded and tinted hair, and very delicately painted facial features. Just look at the depths of his eyes, the subtle shading of his cheeks and the rich redness of his cupid's bow lips. Th quality of the moulding is also apparent in his body and limbs, with his chubby toddler's stomach, dimpled hands and creased upper legs. Not only is this a very fine doll, it is also in very fine condition. There are no cracks, splits or dents to the celluloid and, apart from some very minor surface marking, there is absolutely nothing to report. Although the doll is not marked with a maker's name or country of manufacture, the quality and style of the celluloid clearly indicates that he was made in Japan in the pre-war period for export to the West. He is an absolutely stunning celluloid toddler that would grace any collection of similar items. # US$180.00
