1970s Hong Kong JB Sound 1928 Lincoln Novelty Radio 1970s Hong Kong JB Sound 1928 Lincoln Novelty Radio(Reference #01-6-3nr)
Made in Hong Kong in the 1970s, this novelty radio is a model of a 1928 Lincoln limousine. These curiosities were popular in their day, and this example is made of metal and plastic. It measures 10" long by 3.5" wide by 3.25" high, and is in generally good condition, apart from some tarnishing to the metal front and rear bumpers (fenders). The radio may not work properly as we have only been able to get the faintest 'peep' out of it. However, we are not radio experts, and someone more knowledgeable than us might be able to make it work to its full capacity. The model is marked JB SOUND and HONG KONG. (WR) US$20.00

Price: £10.00

1970s Japanese WACO Rolls Royce Model Radio Novelty(Reference #01-6-3rn)
This is a splendid and well made model of a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost that is also a novelty radio in working order. The vehicle measures 9" long by 4" wide by 4.5" high, and is constructed from metal, plastic and rubber. It has a weighty feel to it, and is very well finished, particularly the burnished silver body panels and bonnet. The wheels rotate should you wish to push the model around. The radio is in working order and has an on/off/volume and tuning control knobs neatly concealed on either side of the chassis. These novelty radios do not have a high specification so the reception is not of the best quality. However, it is good enough to listen to without earache. The car is marked WACO, 5 TRANSISTOR, PRODUCT OF JAPAN, and 611 on the underside. These model car radios are an interesting curiosity of their time, and this is a superior example of the genre. (WR) US$44.00

1960s Boxed Japanese B/O Tin Mountain Express Loco 1960s Boxed Japanese B/O Tin Mountain Express Loco(Reference #05-7-10me)
Produced in the late 1960s/early1970s, these battery-operated tinplate locomotives were a popular plaything in their time. This example is in full working order, and to quote from the box, this is what it does: mystery action, realistic whistle sound, flashing and moving piston, moving engineer. The locomotive measures 15" long, and is made entirely of lithographed tinplate, apart from the base plate, the engineer's head, and the wheels, which are made of plastic, vinyl, and plastic and rubber respectively. The condition is very good overall, except for slight scuffing to the rear of the driving cab and the front of the loco, as well as the usual tarnishing to the unprinted side boiler rails. Made by Modern Toys in Japan, and numbered 4192 in its catalogue, this Piston Blue Mountain Express locomotive is one of the better battery-operated locomotives of this period. The box is complete and intact, but is taped, torn, and creased. However, it's always a bonus to have the original box. (WR) US$44.00

1960s Japanese Modern Toys Tin B/O Boy on a Go-Kart(Reference #4-7-273)
Made by Modern Toys of Japan in the 1960s, this unusual novelty toy represents a boy on a motorised go-kart. The toy measures just over 6" long and comprises a tinplate figure with a vinyl head sitting on a go-kart. The lithography is still bright and shiny, and overall the toy is in absolutely excellent condition. However, it is not currently in working order, although it could probably be restored by those skilled in mechanical work of this nature. The only other defect to report is that there is slight paint loss and marking to the boy's white helmet. (WR) US$60.00

Price: £30.00

1960 Japan Alps Tin & Plush B/O Drumming Duck 1960 Japan Alps Tin & Plush B/O Drumming Duck(Reference #01-7-6t)
Alps of Japan made this amusing 9" high duck with full drum kit in the 1960s, and it remains in noisy working order. Just insert two new batteries in the battery box, push the switch, and off he goes, banging and clanging away. His eyes also light up, his head moves, his beak opens and closes, and his feet operate the drum pedals. Generally in good condition, apart from some discolouration to the beak, wear to the fabric above the left arm, and a hole to the hat where it folds back. The battery box is clean, and shows no signs of corrosion whatsoever. Every duck pond should have a drumming duck for those long summer evenings. (#) US$138.00

Price: £69.00

1960s Japanese Tin B/O Smoke Puffing Loco(Reference #6-6-124a)
Made by Modern Toys of Japan in the 1960s, this unusual and brightly lithographed tinplated and battery-operated loco measures 9" long and is in full working order. It moves sedately along the ground, whistling and emitting smoke from the funnel, while the little boy driver sways from side to side and waves his flag. The loco is also fitted with the mechanism whereby it reverses when it hits an obstacle and then goes off in another direction. The boy's head is made of vinyl, and there are some plastic elements to the loco (wheels, boiler, flag, base plate), but this is essentially a tinplate toy. The only significant defect to report is that the battery box cover has become detached at some point and has been neatly re-attached by means of black woven tape. Incidentally, the inside of the battery box is very clean. This is an amusing battery-operated toy from the classic era of Japanese toy production. (600 #) US$60.00

1960s Japanese B/O Tinplate Fire Truck 1960s Japanese B/O Tinplate Fire Truck(Reference #6-7-52)
This all tinplate, battery operated, mystery action fire truck measures 9½" long and in good working order. The truck performs the usual 'bump and go' action with lighted moving pistons. The toy is in overall very good condition with no scratches to the tinplate. The only fault is that the fireman's head is now attached to the body with the aid of a blutack-like substance. This is an effective repair, however, as the moving action of the head is unimpaired and still moves from side to side as the vehicle bumps around. This is a somewhat unusual battery operated toy to enlarge your collection of these latter day automata. (600 WR) US$180.00

Price: £90.00

1960s B/O Tin and Cloth High Jinx Clown(Reference #4-9-585)
This clever and desirable High Jinx at the Circus Clown measures 10" high and is battery operated. The clown, with moving head, kicking foot and a lighted nose, blows a whistle and pushes a cymbal-playing chimp up in the air on an extending ladder. The toy still performs well although the clown's head does not move whilst in operation and the nose no longer lights up. The other functions all work except that the ladder does not perhaps return to its collapsed state as well as it once may have done. The toy is made of cloth, tin and plastic and suffers from some general age-related grubbiness to the clothing. There is also some rust staining to one side of the tinplate base. However, this is an ingenious toy and the fact that the gear that controls the ladder breaks under the stress of working the toy makes good operating examples hard to find. (WR) US$190.00

Price: £95.00
